11 Best Beauty Secrets From Women Of Reddit

Wow, some of these tricks really do work wonders. You go, Redditors!

Every woman has her own stash of beauty secrets that she swears by, something that is not very well known in the beauty community but that works for her and she uses it religiously. Some of these secrets are also pretty well known and followed by ordinary women like you and me and professional makeup artists alike.

Well, I'm the woman who likes to know about these well kept secrets because I love everything that has to do with beauty and also because I'm nosy like that.

So, I scoured the depths of r/AskReddit on Reddit, and these are the 10 best beauty secrets I found that ordinary women swear by in their day to day life. I've also either tried these tips myself or done extensive research on them to find out if using them is safe for you. So without anymore rambling, let's get into the 11 Best Beauty Secrets from Women of Reddit.

Rubbing Alcohol on Armpits to Kill smelly Bacteria

This is a tip mainly for people who are dancers or into any kind of sports that makes them sweat a lot. The Redditor also talked about how her Dance teacher used rubbing alcohol on the dancers’ armpits and feet to eradicate the smell of sweat. For people who don't sweat profusely, I think a good ol’ deodorant will suffice. I personally have not tried this beauty secret because I'm not someone who sweats much, even after an hour of work out, my armpits remain relatively dry so a deodorant works just fine for me. But for all the those who go to the gym, dance studio or the field to play sports, this trick might be worth giving a shot to. Just make sure you don't use it on broken skin and cuts!!!

Cheap Hair Conditioner or Coconut Oil for Shaving

This is one of the secrets that I have tried on myself. I have a lot of hair on my body and it used to be thick, coarse black hair but I've been getting my arms, legs and armpits waxed ever since I was in middle school so I've noticed the growth has slowed down and the hair itself has gotten softer. I have used both the hair conditioner and coconut oil to shave my legs and here's my verdict. The Coconut Oil works better for my legs than the Conditioner does. Even my body wash works better than the conditioner does. Now this might just be true for my hair type so I would suggest you try the conditioner hack on yourself if you do shave, and see for yourself it it works for you. If it doesn't like it doesn't for me, the Coconut Oil works like magic. So does baby oil! I love the Johnsons baby oil for shaving my body hair. It really is the best.

Avoid Long Hot showers

I feel like us Indians have been taking cold showers ever since we were born, or at least everyone I know has been doing it because the summers in India as so hot, you can't think of using hot water for your showers. Cold water just hits different, guys! We do switch to hot water in the winters, but hot summers call for baths in cold water. And you can not wash your hair with hot water, that's just a big no-no! And these days, people over on youtube have been making videos trying out cold water showers for one week and sharing their results because apparently its great for the health of your skin and hair.

The best way to transition to cold water showers is to ease into it. Don't dunk ice cold water on your head the second you get into the shower, start with the temperature you usually shower under and then slowly start to lower it until you're at a temperature that you feel slightly uncomfortable in. Then stay there for two to three minutes, trying to get your body used to the cold temperature.

Shimmer Lotion on the Front And Back Of the legs makes them look slim and long

This is a great trick that I have used myself and trust me, it makes your legs look bomb! It's the theory of light and shade that we have been using in make up for ages and ages. Apply a highlighter to the place you want to bring to the forefront and use darkness on the place you want to push back. That's why we use highlighter on our cheekbones and contour on the hollows of the cheeks. Applying a shimmering lotion to just the front and back of your legs makes them stand out, the light reflects off of your legs and makes the eye follow the line. This makes the legs look longer and slimmer and appear toned. Now if you were to put the same shimmering cream on the sides of your legs, that would make your legs look bulky.

Vaseline as Makeup Remover

This one was mentioned by more than one redditor so it appears to be quite a popular beauty hack or secret. Vaseline already has many uses and a lot of people have been using it as a lip balm, eye lash and eyebrow grower and even for slugging, as was all the rage on tiktok. So it wouldn't really be too far fetched to think people use Vaseline to remove their makeup too. I have never tried this hack myself but according to an article by Healthline, it is absolutely alright to remove your makeup with Vaseline since it is a petroleum jelly, it dissolves any kind of make up gently and simply. It is also a lot safer than many other make up removers in the market. It is also dirt cheap and easily available wherever you live.

Apply Moisturiser on Wet Skin

The redditor advised to apply your moisturiser right after you get out of the shower, on sopping wet skin so that's how I tried it and this is what I found. Even though it was really easy to spread the product around (I use a body butter) on wet skin, my skin once dried was not the softest. The best results I get for my dry as the Sahara Desert skin is by applying the cream on damp skin. I dab the towel on my body after I get out of the shower and apply moisturiser while it I still a little damp. This provides great slip, making the product glides on the skin and my skin remains smooth and moisturised all day long.

Apply Rubbing Alcohol to Prevent Bruises

The redditor said that she uses rubbing alcohol to any area she accidentally whacked, I.e. banged into a table or something, and that prevents her from having a bruise form there. She doesn't know why this happens but assumed its because the cold from the rubbing alcohol probably tightens the capillaries and prevents internal bleeding. I did son research about this and I did find an article which said applying rubbing alcohol to an already formed bruise will help the black and blue marks disappear quicker. So there you go, no harm in trying this trick if you are clumsy and need something to combat the blues and blacks.

Use Eyeshadow as Eyeliner

This is a beauty secret that I frequently use on myself and on others when I do their makeup. I usually use a dark coloured eyeshadow and pick it up with a stiff eyeshadow brush. All you have to do is just take you brush with the eyeshadow on it and swipe it on where you want your wing to be. That's all you have to do and you get the perfect crisp wing everytime! I've stopped using eyeliner ever since I started doing this. Now, I only use the eyeshadow because I like how soft and natural it looks but if you like the dark liner look but are just learning how to get the sharp flawless flick, just use the eyeshadow to map out the shape of your wing and go over it with your liquid or gel liner. This would make your liner game so much easier. Do try this one out and let me know how you liked it!

Never Wear Makeup When You're Working Out!

The exclamation mark was added by the redditor herself, followed by a Trust Me. The reason why one shouldn't wear makeup while working out is the oils and waxes from your foundation and/or concealer can mix in with your sweat and clog your pores, which further results in blackheads, Whitehead's and pimples. I work out alone so I've never felt the need to wear makeup but I realise that I lot of people, who work out in public gyms feel more comfortable with some make up on. If you are one of those people, just make sure you use wax and oil free make up for the gym and you should be good to go.

Line the eye you have trouble with first.

By that, I mean the eye that is a little more challenging to line with eyeliner. We all have that one side that we prefer over the other. One eye that we can confidently swipe the eyeliner on and know it will look great. Then they is that other eye which you can hardly ever get right, the Eye Of The Devil, per say! So this trick says, you should apply eyeliner to that troublesome eye first because it is a lot easier to copy the liner to the eye you have more experience with than the other way around.

Rubbing Alcohol for Smelly Shoes.

It seems the Rubbing Alcohol is a cult favourite among women of Reddit. This is the third time it has appeared in this article alone. Since we've already established the fact that rubbing alcohol kills smelly bacteria, it's not a surprise that people use it on their smelly shoes too. All you have to do is spray some rubbing alcohol on the soles of your shoes and leave them out in the sun to air dry. By the time you'll need to wear them again, they would have gone back to being fresh and none-musty.

I hope you found something worth trying in this list of beauty secrets and if you do end up trying something, let me know by commenting how you liked it. Also, don't be afraid to share your own beauty secret in the comments, I would love to read and try them out! Thanks for reading.
